Velká hospoda na Bílé hoře, Cultural monument and former restaurant in Řepy, Czech Republic
Velká hospoda na Bílé hoře is a building complex on the western edge of Prague that combines features of a former monastery, hospital, and inn within a single structure. The architecture displays elements from multiple centuries, with rooms of varying sizes and purposes that developed through renovations.
The original Servite monastery was founded in 1628 as a religious center in this location. Over time it evolved into a hospice and later a tavern, gradually transforming into the restaurant and social venue it became known as.
The building displays traces of multiple uses in its spaces: monastery rooms with religious elements stand alongside tavern areas, showing how it shifted from a sacred place to a community gathering spot.
The building has been closed to the public since April 2019 and remains inaccessible to visitors. You can view the exterior and grounds from the street on Karlovarská in Prague 6, which is easy to reach by public transport.
The Chapel of Saint Martin retains its original 17th-century vaulted ceiling that survived multiple fires and reconstructions over the centuries. This ceiling remains one of the few original architectural features that has kept its authentic appearance.
