Roverské skály, Special Area of Conservation in Domašice, Czech Republic
Roverské skály is a protected conservation area in northern Bohemia covering multiple villages and characterized by distinctive sandstone rock outcrops. The landscape includes forests, exposed cliffs, and valleys that create varied habitats throughout the site.
The rock formations developed during the Turonian period as sandstone deposits from the Jizera Formation accumulated over time. Natural erosion subsequently carved these layers into the distinctive cliffs and geological structures visible today.
Local camping communities maintain the forest areas and contribute to environmental protection through regular tree planting and path maintenance activities.
Access to the area is best achieved through local trails and walking paths connecting the various villages. It is helpful to check weather conditions beforehand, as paths can vary in accessibility depending on the season.
The site harbors a rare fern species that reproduces exclusively through vegetative means and appears nowhere else in this region. This plant depends on the moist conditions created within rock crevices and shaded areas.
