Church of the Annunciation, Neoclassical church in Šternberk, Czech Republic.
The Church of the Annunciation is a neoclassical place of worship distinguished by its clean geometric form and elegant facade. Inside, the building contains paintings by Josef Winterhalder and Leopold Kupelwieser, along with decorative ceiling compositions.
The site traces its roots to 1371, when an Augustinian monastery was established there. The present building was constructed between 1775 and 1783 following two destructive fires that damaged the earlier structure.
The church is named after the Annunciation and displays artworks by renowned painters that represent religious themes and regional history. Visitors can observe how the paintings and ceiling frescoes connect religious devotion with local identity.
The location is easily reached on foot and is centrally situated in Šternberk, where parking is available. The church welcomes visitors during the week, with services held at set times.
Following Emperor Josef II's suppression of monasteries in 1784, only the church wing remained under Catholic control. Other parts of the complex passed to city ownership and were later adapted for different uses.
