Schwarzenberg Vault in Orlík nad Vltavou

The Schwarzenberg Vault is a Neo-Gothic family tomb located in Orlík nad Vltavou with a cruciform layout and two main floors. It stands in the northern section of the castle park and showcases architectural details typical of 19th century Czech construction.

Construction of this burial site was initiated by Karel Filip Schwarzenberg, a military leader who played a significant role in 1813. The structure was built to serve as a permanent resting place for members of the family line during the 19th century.

The entrance displays biblical inscriptions and intricate wood carvings that reflect how the family expressed their faith and status through the space. These decorative elements show the craftsmanship valued during the era when the structure was completed.

The tomb is located approximately 1.5 kilometers northwest of Orlík Castle and requires advance arrangements to visit the interior. It is advisable to contact the castle administration to arrange a visit, as access is restricted.

The vault holds remains of nearly two dozen members from a secondary branch of the Schwarzenberg family who lived across different periods. The most recent burial took place less than a year ago, showing the site remains actively used by descendants.
