Kosmonosy Castle

Kosmonosy Castle is a château in Kosmonosy that began as a Renaissance structure and later received Baroque and Neoclassical additions. The southern wing especially shows how different building styles from different periods were combined into one complex.

The fortress was built in the early 1560s as a Renaissance structure reflecting the style of the time. About a century later, the Czernin family carried out extensive renovations that fundamentally changed its appearance.

The castle serves as a place where visitors can observe how Bohemian noble families lived and shaped their residences. The rooms reflect the tastes and choices of the Czernin family, who reshaped the property according to their preferences.

The castle sits about 46 kilometers northeast of Prague and welcomes visitors throughout the year. The grounds accommodate various facilities and regular viewings allow people to explore the rooms and layout.

The castle shares its grounds with a psychiatric hospital that has operated in nearby buildings since the 1800s. This blend of a noble residence and a modern medical facility on the same site represents an unexpected mix of historical and contemporary uses.
