Olomouc City House, Baroque house in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic
Olomouc City House is a four-story Baroque building located on Tržiště Street in the historical center of Karlovy Vary. Its facade displays characteristic Baroque features with vertical elements and decorative details distributed across its multiple levels.
The original structure was built in 1760, immediately following a major city fire in 1759 that destroyed more than 200 buildings. Over a century later, the building underwent an artistic redesign in 1910 that introduced more modern design elements.
The building served as a gathering place for notable visitors to the spa town. Wall plaques on its exterior mark the periods when it functioned as an inn for traveling guests.
The house sits in the historical Old Town, only a few minutes walk from the main street. Access is easiest through the town center or by using the bus lines that connect to the Theatre Square area.
A renowned German writer visited the house multiple times during his stays in the city and left traces of his presence on the walls. This connection makes it an important record of literary history in the region.
