Svijany Castle, Renaissance château in Svijany, Czech Republic
Svijany Castle is a Renaissance fortified residence in northern Bohemia with 17 hotel rooms and underground sections open throughout the year. The building features permanent exhibitions about local history and several aspects of regional heritage.
The castle was founded in 1565 by Jaroslav of Wartenberg as a defensive stronghold in the region. The Wallenstein family acquired it later and oversaw its development until the early 1800s.
The castle displays regional archaeological finds and tells the story of how beer brewing and spa traditions shaped this area. These exhibitions show how deeply craftsmanship and wellness culture are woven into local identity.
The castle sits about 40 minutes south of Prague and 20 minutes northeast of Liberec, accessible via the D10 motorway. The underground sections can be damp during wet weather, so visitors should wear appropriate footwear.
Visitors can engage in Arcana, an interactive adventure game that blends digital gaming with physical exploration of the castle. This experience transforms a regular tour into a puzzle-solving journey where history meets technology.
