Villa Reissig

Leopold Bauer designed this residence between 1901 and 1902 for Dr. Karl Reissig, representing a shift toward new directions in residential architecture of the period. It emerged from an era when leading architects began exploring modern spatial concepts.

The building combines English architectural style with forward-looking design choices made popular in the early 1900s. This blend of traditional and modern thinking shaped how wealthy residents wanted their homes to look and feel.

The house was built with advanced systems for its time, including central heating, gas and electric lighting, and modern bathrooms integrated throughout. These features were unusual for a private home in the early 1900s and show the owner's wealth and access to new technology.

The windows and doors are shaped and sized differently in each room to match its specific purpose and lighting needs, creating an irregular pattern throughout the house. This custom approach was unusual for the period and shows how Bauer treated every space as having its own requirements.
