Statue of John of Nepomuk in Čelákovice, Religious statue in Čelákovice, Czech Republic

The statue of John of Nepomuk shows a bearded priest carved in stone, holding a crucifix in his hands and surrounded by five stars. The monument reflects classical Baroque art and stands in the public space of the town.

The sandstone statue was commissioned by Jan Baltazar Voříkovský of Kundratice, whose coat of arms appears on the pedestal between two volutes. A chronogram on the base yields the year 1723 three times over. An inscription on the back records that the monument was restored in 1865 at the expense of benefactors, and it has been listed as a cultural monument since 1958.

The statue carries the coat of arms of its donor, Jan Baltazar Voříkovský of Kundratice, set between two large volutes on the pedestal. Below it a chronogram hides the year 1723 three times over, and an inscription on the back records that benefactors had the monument restored in 1865.

The statue stands in the fork where Kostelní street meets Sedláčkova street, in Čelákovice in the Prague-East district. It is an outdoor sandstone work in a public street space, reachable on foot; the inscription on the back of the pedestal and the donor's coat of arms between the volutes are best read in daylight.

The right hand holds a medallion with a paladium, an addition outside the usual iconographic canon for John of Nepomuk. The pedestal carries the coat of arms of the donor, Jan Baltazar Voříkovský of Kundratice, set between two massive volutes.
