Zámek Brodek u Prostějova, Baroque château in Brodek u Prostějova, Czech Republic.
Zámek Brodek u Prostějova is a Baroque château in central Bohemia with a rectangular layout and formal facade design. The main building displays thirteen window axes across its front and features a central projection topped by a triangular pediment that displays a coat of arms.
Construction began in 1685 for court counselor Paul Karl von Kleinburg, with the building taking its present form during major renovations between 1750 and 1755 for State Chancellor Anton Ulfeld. These later works gave it the classical Baroque character it retains today.
The Baroque garden with its lime tree alleys and landscaped park show how nobility of the time shaped their estates to reflect their taste and status. Visitors can still see how the original layout invited people to spend time outdoors in a carefully planned way.
The château is not open to regular visits because it remains in private hands. Special openings occur occasionally, and arranged visits are possible only by contacting the owners in advance to make appropriate arrangements.
The architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach combined traditional Czech architectural elements with Austrian Baroque style in an uncommon way when designing this structure. This blending of regional traditions created something distinctive that is rarely seen elsewhere.
