Čachrov Stronghold, Medieval fortified house in Čachrov, Czech Republic.
Čachrov Stronghold is a fortified residence centered around a substantial stone keep that remains from the original medieval construction. The keep displays Gothic architectural features and forms the most recognizable element of the former defensive compound.
The stronghold was constructed in the 1380s under the direction of Vilém of Čachrov, following the settlement's elevation to market town status. A Renaissance-style renovation occurred around 1600, and a Baroque manor house was added in 1712 as an extension to the complex.
The Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic designated Čachrov Stronghold as a protected cultural monument due to its architectural and historical value.
The site sits in a rural area south of Klatovy and is best reached by personal vehicle. Access to the grounds depends on current opening hours and any restoration work, so checking conditions beforehand is advisable.
The 1712 Baroque manor house was a major addition that reshaped the appearance of the site for generations. A 1977 fire destroyed this building, but left the older keep standing as the primary surviving feature.
