Steam mill in Telč, Watermill and cultural monument in Telč, Czech Republic
The Steam Mill in Telč is a watermill and cultural monument located at the southern edge of the Old Town pond beneath the town dike. The site features a dam system with weirs and bridges that once directed water to power the mill's operations.
The mill was first recorded in 1533 as a grain mill. During the 1800s it transformed into a cloth factory, then a dye-house and spinning mill, before production stopped in 1957.
The Neoclassical building shows how industrial production once shaped the town's daily life and economy. The mill reflects the local community's dependence on water-powered work and textile manufacturing heritage.
The site is located on Radkovská street in the southern section of the Old Town and visitors can view the water structures and dam system from outside. Wear comfortable shoes since the ground is uneven and the area is near water.
After closing in 1957, the site became a storage facility and lost its original purpose. Yet the historic water structures and dam system remain visible today, showing how waterpower was once harnessed.
