Holy Trinity column in Bakov nad Jizerou, Holy Trinity column on Mírové náměstí in Bakov nad Jizerou, Czech Republic

The Holy Trinity column rises from Mírové náměstí square as a Baroque structure adorned with elaborate carved reliefs depicting religious figures. The detailed sculptural work demonstrates the artistic skill of craftsmen from that era.

The column was completed in 1729, with chronograms on its lower base giving 1727 and 1729. It was funded by the Bakov parish priest Josef Mušlice and donations from Marie Markéta of Valdštejn, František Arnošt of Valdštejn and local citizens, at a total cost of 700 gulden. The sculptor was Josef Jiří Jelínek. A stone balustrade was added around the stepped base in 1770 by Jan Lypen.

The column was funded by the Bakov parish priest Josef Mušlice together with Marie Markéta of Valdštejn, František Arnošt of Valdštejn and the townspeople; the total cost came to 700 gulden. Three original Czech inscriptions with highlighted chronograms remain on the lower base, and a later inscription lists repairs made in 1856, 1897, 1903, 1928, 1942, 1959, 1968 and 1984.

The monument sits in the center of the town square and is easy to locate and view at any time. Daytime visits work best as sunlight illuminates the carved details for closer observation.

The three life-size statues of Czech patrons on the upper base—St. Wenceslas, St. Adalbert and St. John of Nepomuk—are copies; the originals were moved to the lapidarium in Mnichovo Hradiště between 1967 and 1970. The stone balustrade around the stepped plinth was added only in 1770 by Jan Lypen.
