Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul, Medieval chapel in Veselá, Czech Republic
The Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul is a religious building with neo-Gothic architecture and two tall towers constructed between 1902 and 1903 from František Mikš's design. The structure sits on the foundations of a much older sanctuary.
The religious structure was founded originally between 1070 and 1080 under King Vratislav II of Bohemia and faced considerable destruction. A fire in 1249 forced rebuilding that shaped its later development.
The interior features Art Nouveau paintings by František Urban and his wife Maria that frame the carved main altar by Josef Hrubeš. These artworks shape how the space feels when you step inside.
Regular religious services take place on Thursdays and Fridays at 18:00 and Sundays at 09:00 throughout the year. Visitors should check current opening times beforehand to ensure the chapel is accessible.
Inside is a Romanesque stone coffin attributed to Saint Longin that may have belonged to a member of the Přemyslid dynasty that ruled Bohemia. This artifact dates from centuries before the current building was constructed.
