Church of Saint John the Baptist in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm

The Church of Saint John the Baptist is a Gothic building with three naves, a choir on the east side, a sacristy to the north, and a notable tower on the south side. The structure combines elements from different building phases, showing how it expanded and adapted across centuries.

The building started as a Romanesque basilica in the 13th century but underwent major reconstruction after a fire in the 15th century, gaining a vestibule and a spire. These changes shaped its appearance to the present day.

The name honors John the Baptist, a central figure in Christian tradition. Inside, artistic works from different eras shape the space and give visitors insight into how local faith and creativity have been expressed over time.

The building is easy to locate and has four entrances providing access to different areas. Visitors should come in early morning or late afternoon to best enjoy the light streaming through the windows.

In the late 1800s, the church underwent extensive renovation with the tower significantly extended following a Gothic design. This ambitious effort shows how much the community invested in preserving the building.
