Church of Saint James the Greater

The Church of Saint James the Greater is a parish church in Hostivice that combines Gothic and Baroque architectural styles with a tall tower rising above its main structure. Inside, three aisles divide the worship space, while the exterior facade displays features typical of both periods.

Construction began in the late 13th century as the local parish church took shape. A major fire in 1689 destroyed much of the building, leading to its reconstruction in the Baroque style that remains visible today.

The interior contains several altars where the community gathered to pray before their patron saint. The craftsmanship of the furnishings shows how important this building was to local worship.

The church sits at the center of the village and is easily reached on foot from nearby streets. Visitors are welcome throughout the week, though it is best to be respectful of any ongoing services.

A preserved human hand hangs at the main entrance, a curious relic tied to an old story about someone who tried to steal a statue of the Virgin Mary. This unusual object serves as a silent reminder of local folklore that intrigues many visitors.
