Kaple svaté Kunhuty, Religious chapel in Hojsova Stráž, Czech Republic
Saint Kunigunde Chapel sits at 890 meters elevation in the Bohemian Forest and displays a restored Baroque altar from 1687 with a painting of its patron saint. The small sanctuary features thick walls and was constructed using local stone materials.
The chapel was founded in 1408 by nobles Bohuslav and Racek of Janovice when mining and trade routes shaped the region. After the German-speaking population left in 1946, the building fell into disrepair for decades.
The chapel holds religious significance with its restored altar painting of Saint Kunigunde, now maintained by the Hojsova Stráž Civic Association.
The site is reachable on foot and remains open to visitors, though conditions can be rough at this elevation. A small spring flows beneath the chapel, and its water is valued by locals.
After the German population departure in 1946, the chapel deteriorated substantially, yet retained its original Baroque altar without decorations.
