Church of Saint Margaret in Horní Planá, Gothic-Romanesque church in Horní Planá, Czech Republic
The Church of Saint Margaret is a two-nave building with cross-ribbed vaults and a polygonal chancel in the village of Horní Planá. A bell tower stands at the western side, and a sacristy completes the internal layout.
The building was first documented in 1384 and underwent major renovations between 1694 and 1696. Further work on the eastern nave and presbytery took place from 1708 to 1710.
The interior walls display Renaissance paintings showing the Virgin Mary and various saints, reflecting the religious devotion of the community through centuries. These artworks shape how the space feels when you enter.
The building opens mainly during religious services, but you can view the interior through a grille during daytime hours. Check local opening times before visiting, as these may vary by season.
A Rococo pulpit from 1763 and a stone baptismal font from 1805 stand out in the interior. An organ built in 1865 by craftsman Josef Breinbauer adds to the overall character of the space.
