Statue of Goliath in Kuks

The Statue of Goliath in Kuks is a Baroque sculpture standing as part of a collection of about 24 stone figures on the hospital complex grounds. It was created by sculptor Matyáš Bernard Braun and exemplifies the artistic decoration that enriched this healing location.

The statue was commissioned in the early 18th century when Count František Antonín Špork realized his ambitious vision for a hospital with therapeutic gardens. It emerged during a period when patrons enriched healing sites with sculptural grandeur.

The statue represents Goliath as a symbol of strength within the Baroque artistic vision, where sculpture and healing were intertwined as part of the complex's philosophy. It stands among other carved figures that visitors encounter while walking through the grounds.

The grounds are open to visitors from April to October and can be reached from Kuks village via a marked path from the paid parking area. The location near the Elbe River is best explored on foot.
