Středověká úpravna zlatých rud

This medieval gold ore processing site in Kašperské Hory consists of stone building foundations and the remains of work structures spread across the location. Excavations uncovered furnaces designed to heat ore, living quarters for workers, and two large heaps of quartz waste left behind from the extraction process.

The facility operated between the 13th and 14th centuries and was central to medieval mining in the region. It was eventually abandoned as gold extraction lost economic importance and new mining methods emerged elsewhere.

This archaeological location demonstrates the advanced metallurgical techniques used by medieval Czech miners through preserved tools and processing equipment.

The site can be reached on foot via a marked path starting from Kašperské Hory center and is best visited during warmer months. Consulting information from the local museum before or after your visit helps explain what you see among the stone remains.

A 5-meter-deep well discovered beneath the foundations contained fragments of leather clothing and mining lamps that illuminate daily life in the medieval mine. These personal objects reveal how workers lived and labored in this remote location under harsh conditions.
