Parní vodárna Chválkovice, Steam waterworks in Chválkovice, Czech Republic
Parní vodárna Chválkovice is a historic steam pumping station within an industrial complex from the late 19th century, preserving the original machinery and building structures. The facility displays the complete equipment of a steam-powered water pumping system as it operated in its time.
The facility was built in 1889 and supplied drinking water to Olomouc until 1960. In that year the steam system was replaced with electric pumps, causing the station to lose its original function.
The site shows how people over a century ago brought water to their city and what technical solutions they created for this purpose. Visitors can see how closely craftsmanship and innovation were connected at that time.
Visits take place through guided tours where experts explain the historical water systems and machines. It helps to allow time to explore the entire complex to properly understand all the equipment and how it was built.
This is the only preserved steam waterworks in the Czech Republic that keeps its entire original equipment and infrastructure in original condition. Visitors can see what the heavy machinery and pipe construction actually looked like when the facility operated daily.
