Smrčná Fortress is a fortified house in the village of Smrčná in Vysočina Region and displays typical features of medieval defensive architecture. The structure preserves stone elements and fortification details characteristic of its original construction period.
The earliest documented record of a settlement in Smrčná dates to 1233 and marks the first known presence at this site. The fortified structure has remained a standing landmark throughout the following centuries.
The Ministry of Culture recognizes this structure through its designation as a Cultural Monument, preserving it as part of Czech architectural heritage.
The site is easily reached through regional roads and lies within reasonable distance of larger towns, making it suitable for day trips. Spring through fall offers the best conditions for visiting when paths and surroundings are most accessible.
The fortress maintains records of population changes from 886 residents in 1869 to 470 in 2024, documenting demographic shifts across multiple centuries.
