Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Catholic church in Rybáře, Czech Republic

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a non-oriented Neo-Romanesque basilica of fired brick, built 1904–1906 by Norbert and Alois Sichert to Karel Schaden's design. A main nave with a narrower rectangular presbytery and gable roof is flanked by low side aisles; the sacristy and side chapel give the plan a cross shape. At the southwest corner of the entrance facade stands a square bell tower with trapezoidal gables, round clocks and an octagonal sheet-metal spire.

The village of Rybáře, first mentioned in 1511, had a church of St Urban built around 1500 on its former cemetery. As the town grew, this medieval church became insufficient, and on 11 September 1904 the foundation stone of a new parish church was consecrated. Construction by Norbert and Alois Sichert lasted until 1906, and the church was consecrated on 27 May 1906 by Archbishop Lev Skrbenský z Hříště.

The church holds three bells: Josef (about 240 kg) and Maria (about 320 kg), returned on 7 December 2017, and a new bell, Kristus. All three were consecrated on 25 May 2019 by Plzeň bishop Tomáš Holub. The original bells survived World War I but were requisitioned in 1942 for the Third Reich's armaments programme.

The church stands on náměstí 17. listopadu in Rybáře, with the two-storey parish house of 1905 directly to its north. The entrance facade faces southwest, where the brick bell tower with circular clocks rises at the corner. The interior is entered from that side, so the nave, narrower presbytery and three-apse end unfold in sequence.

The church's three bells survived World War I but were requisitioned in 1942 for the Third Reich's armaments programme. Bells Josef (about 240 kg) and Maria (about 320 kg) were returned on 7 December 2017, and on 25 May 2019 the Bishop of Plzeň, Tomáš Holub, consecrated them together with a new bell named Kristus.
