Tuhnický jez, jez v Karlových Varech
Tuhnicky Weir is a small water barrier on the Ohre River in Karlovy Vary, standing about 0.6 meters high. The site features a sports gate with minor turbulence and a fish passage, allowing kayaks and boats to either run the weir or portage along the gentle slope beside it.
The weir was originally built as an aid for water management and flood protection. In 2010, it underwent complete reconstruction and the slope was reshaped to a gentler profile to make it safer for paddlers.
The best passage is through the left side via the sports gate, especially at lower water levels and for beginners. Wear water-resistant clothing and check local conditions, as water flow varies by season.
The site is equipped with a rescue ring on a rope, a visible safety feature that serves as a reminder of water safety's importance in this area. This simple rescue tool is a quiet testament to the place's significance in water sports and local culture.
