Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Catholic church in Starý Rožmitál, Czech Republic.

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a Catholic place of worship in Starý Rožmitál with architectural elements spanning multiple periods. The building displays gothic foundations that were substantially redesigned in the 18th century with baroque elements, transforming the interior and external facade.

This place of worship was built in the 13th century as a gothic chapel and served the community for centuries as a religious center. Between 1729 and 1731, major reconstruction work transformed it into its current baroque form with a redesigned facade and revised interior spaces.

The village that grew below the church was always called Staré město, Latin Antiqua civitas, and the church was its parish centre for settlements including Rožmitál pod Třemšínem, Věšín and Voltuš. Teacher and composer Jakub Jan Ryba played the organ here and wrote his Czech Christmas Mass in this place; a memorial plaque by sculptor Eva Sprangerová was mounted on the church wall in 1990.

The church stands on a hill at the western end of Starý Rožmitál, not in the south. A staircase of eight steps, each eight paces long and wide, leads up from the north side; it was built in 1882 by the affiliated villages. The granite paving in front of the church replaced asphalt in November 2024.

The organ dates from 1750 and was built under parish priest Antonín Planýř; it survived the 1794 fire that destroyed the rectory and melted the bells. Jakub Jan Ryba, the teacher and composer who played this organ, is commemorated by a memorial plaque on the church wall, installed in 1990 and made by sculptor Eva Sprangerová.
