Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a Catholic place of worship in Starý Rožmitál with architectural elements spanning multiple periods. This place of worship was built in the 13th century as a gothic chapel and served the community for centuries as a religious center. Between 1729 and 1731, major reconstruction work transformed it into its current baroque form with a redesigned facade and revised interior spaces.

This place of worship is located in the southern part of Starý Rožmitál village and can be reached easily by road. Visitors should wear respectful clothing and behave appropriately during religious services since the church remains an active place of prayer.

The premiere of the Czech Christmas Mass took place here in 1796, a composition by Jakub Jan Ryba that became a turning point in Czech music history. This performance is still celebrated as a landmark moment in the development of Czech musical culture.
