Holy Cross chapel

The Holy Cross Chapel is a Baroque structure in Veltrusy built with stone walls and traditional religious motifs carved into the facade. The building displays typical architectural features of this era with carefully crafted details on the roof and walls.

The building was erected during the Romanesque period around 1125 along an important trade route connecting Vyšehrad with Prague. This original function made the site a key stopping point for travelers and merchants crossing the region.

The chapel bears the name of the Holy Cross and displays religious symbols reflecting its role as a place of pilgrimage. Visitors can observe how the decoration and stonework express the faith of those who used this site across the centuries.

The chapel sits within a park and remains accessible year-round as visitors explore the area. Access is straightforward, and there is ample space to view the exterior and admire the architectural details.

The chapel underwent recent restoration work that addressed the roof, plaster, vaults, and stone and stucco details. This preservation effort has allowed visitors to appreciate the craftsmanship of earlier masters and see how the structure looked when first completed.
