Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, Religious chapel in Mramotice, Czech Republic.
The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows is a rectangular building constructed of red bricks with a gabled roof and a small turret containing a bell. The modest structure stands at the center of the Mramotice community and serves as a gathering place for worship.
The chapel suffered damage during World War II that remained unrepaired for many years afterward. Extensive restoration work was completed and the building was reconsecrated in 1993.
Inside the chapel visitors can see a Baroque painting of the Virgin Mary and a folk sculpture of Madonna with the Christ child carved from lime wood. These artworks shape the religious space and reflect the craftsmanship rooted in local tradition.
The chapel remains an active place of worship, so visitors should plan their visit during appropriate times to respect ongoing services. The site is easily accessible in the village center and well maintained by the community.
In front of the chapel stands a granite fountain dating from 1846 with a remarkable story. It was once stolen by thieves who attempted to smuggle it across the border, but was later recovered and restored to its original location.
