Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is a stone building combining Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements in the village of Zásmuky. The structure displays different construction periods, featuring a Neo-Romanesque tower that shapes the upper outline of the building.

The chapel was founded in 1125 and underwent significant transformation in the 14th century, resulting in the current blend of architectural styles. Later, major renovations were carried out, including extensive work in the mid-20th century.

The chapel serves as a gathering place for religious ceremonies and draws visitors interested in exploring its architectural heritage. The location reflects the community's long-standing relationship with faith, visible in how the space is maintained and used today.

The location is easily accessible from outside and invites a visit during daytime hours to observe the architectural details. It is advisable to visit at times when religious services are not taking place, to allow for uninterrupted exploration.

Inside hangs an altar painting of the Virgin Mary from 1861, which replaced earlier artwork and testifies to the restoration of the Neo-Romanesque tower. The painting has survived all later transformations and remains a visual anchor of the sanctuary.
