Radar tower of Prague-Kamýk observatory, Turm in Tschechien
The Radar tower of Prague-Kamýk observatory is a 60 meter high weather monitoring structure in Prague 4 built to track atmospheric conditions. The building displays a clean geometric design from the 1970s with a straightforward, functional construction.
The tower was built in 1971 as a weather station and served from 1979 as the nation's first radar device for cloud observation. Following urban development in later years, its function was replaced by a newer installation in Brdy.
The tower serves as a local landmark in the Kamyk neighborhood and shapes how people perceive the area. For residents, it represents the role of weather science in everyday city life.
The tower is easy to spot from many places in the area and serves as a good landmark when exploring the neighborhood. Visitors can view the structure from outside, while the surrounding area has paths and green spaces for walking.
A geocache can be found near the tower, though it has been relocated several times due to damage. Despite its technical purpose, today the tower is mainly equipped with mobile communications equipment and serves as a local weather monitoring station.
