Holy Trinity Column in Žlutice, Baroque monument in Žlutice, Czech Republic
The Holy Trinity Column in Žlutice is a Baroque monument with elaborately carved stone figures of saints and religious figures surrounding its shaft. It rises above the square and stands out for its detailed decorations with scrolls, capitals and ornamental elements.
Oswald Josef Wenda built this monument between 1701 and 1704, possibly after designs by the respected artist Petr Brandl. Its construction came during a period when such columns were widespread across Bohemia and supported the Counter-Reformation.
The column displays religious themes that mattered to the community during the Baroque period and continue to define the town center. It tells through its figures of faith traditions that have connected generations of residents.
The monument stands on the central square and is easy to find since it is the highest structure in the center. Parking is available near the town hall, from where the site is reachable on foot.
The column was built from local stone quarried from the Žlutice region, reflecting the crafting traditions of the area. This material gives the monument a connection to the landscape and shows how builders used locally available resources.
