Choltice Castle

Choltice Castle is a Renaissance structure with Baroque features in the Pardubice Region, displaying carved stone facades and a central courtyard surrounded by connected buildings. The layout includes multiple wings that create an enclosed residential complex with decorated stone details throughout.

The site began as a medieval fortress but underwent major reconstruction in the second half of the 1500s. This transformation between 1542 and 1570 converted the defensive structure into a comfortable Renaissance residence for its owners.

The chapel inside the castle connects to the Thun und Hohenstein family, who shaped the place over centuries and left their mark on its design. You can see how their presence is reflected in various architectural choices throughout the rooms.

The castle can be toured with guides and sits near a railway line for easy access. Events are held regularly throughout the year, giving you chances to experience the place in different ways.

The courtyard features statues that add character to the space, while a wooden bell tower built in Alpine style from 1863 stands out as an unusual architectural addition. This later tower contrasts noticeably with the older Renaissance design around it.
