Červeňák, Steel bridge in Zelené Předměstí, Czech Republic
Červeňák is a steel and concrete bridge that spans the Chrudimka River and connects the neighborhoods of Zelené Předměstí and Pardubičky. The structure's robust construction reflects the industrial engineering approaches of its era.
The bridge was built in 1935 by the First Railway Regiment and incorporates components from an earlier 1910 structure. The original 1910 components were relocated from the site of what is now the Prokopova Bridge.
The bridge takes its name from its original red paint, a choice that reflected Pardubice's industrial past when such colors marked the city's working landscape. This naming tradition shows how locals identified their structures by their most visible characteristics.
The bridge is currently closed to traffic and stands within a former military training area. Visitors can explore the surrounding landscape on foot while respecting any barriers in place.
Plans exist to transform the area around the bridge into a nature park, which would preserve the unspoiled landscape of the former military ground. This vision demonstrates how abandoned industrial sites can become recreational spaces.
