Kohnův most, Steel railway bridge in Pardubice, Czech Republic
Kohnův most is a steel truss railway bridge that spans the Chrudimka River using steel and reinforced concrete materials. The structure links the Zelené Předměstí and Pardubičky districts while accommodating train traffic, pedestrian passage, and bicycle routes.
Built in 1935 by a military railway unit in Pardubice, the bridge was originally situated about 2.5 kilometers downstream. It was later relocated to its present location where it served as an access point to the military barracks for decades.
After the departure of military forces from Masaryk Barracks in 2012, the bridge transformed from a restricted military zone into a public crossing point.
The bridge offers pedestrians and cyclists a direct crossing between districts, with trains running on their designated schedule. Visitors should stay on marked paths and be aware of train traffic when crossing.
The bridge employs the Kohn bridge system, a specialized engineering design developed by the Czechoslovak army between the world wars. This system was known for its efficiency in constructing quickly assembled military crossings.
