Divadlo Šumperk occupies a historicist former German clubhouse at Komenského 3, set perpendicular to Hlavní třída. Georg Berger won the 1901 competition with a Nordic Neo-Renaissance design, later revised to place the main hall and entrance in the Komenského wing. Stage machinery sits in a crenellated square tower meant to evoke a fortress.

The building began as a German clubhouse: the Saalbauverein was founded in 1892, and industrialist Carl Oberleithner left 9,000 gulden in 1898. Of 78 competition entries, Georg Berger's neo-Renaissance design won in 1901 and opened on 26 December 1902. A professional Czech ensemble has performed here since 1951; a fire on 24 October 1994 destroyed the interior, and the theatre reopened on 7 October 2000.

The building began as a German clubhouse, the Deutsches Vereinshaus, opened on 26 December 1902; its four-sided crenellated tower, which housed stage machinery, was meant to symbolise a fortress against Slavic expansion. Since 1951 it has been the home of the professional Czech ensemble, which stages Czech and foreign classics alongside contemporary drama.

The theatre stands on Komenského Street, perpendicular to Hlavní třída, in a historicist former German clubhouse. The building is reached on foot from the town centre. The artistic programme usually offers a subscription of five evening titles, two fairy-tale productions and one project for the small Hrádek stage.

The four-sided tower with battlements that hides the stage machinery was meant to symbolise a fortress against Slavic expansion, a detail from Georg Berger's 1901 design. The theatre burned down on 24 October 1994; only the sets of the previous night's touring production survived.
