Ubytovna Sandra, Communal housing facility in Chodov, Czech Republic
Ubytovna Sandra is a residential complex with 21 stories made from prefabricated concrete panels located on Nad Opatovem street in Chodov. The building is being renovated in phases and will offer various apartment types for families and seniors when completed.
The complex was built in the 1980s as a residential project during the socialist era with large-scale accommodation spaces. Major renovation work began in 2018 to transform it into modern apartments.
The building grew out of socialist housing policies and shows the standardized construction methods that were typical of that era. Such residential complexes continue to shape the appearance of entire neighborhoods in Prague today.
The site is easily accessible by public transportation in the Chodov district. It makes sense to explore the surrounding area during daylight, as there are shops and local facilities throughout the neighborhood.
The building combines residential apartments with municipal office spaces and meeting rooms, making it a mixed-use facility. This blend of housing and administration under one roof is uncommon in Czech residential complexes.
