London Booster, Mechanical art installation in Chodov district, Prague, Czech Republic.
London Booster is a mechanical art installation in Prague that consists of a red double-decker bus from 1958. The vehicle lifts and lowers itself repeatedly using hydraulic arms while producing sounds and light effects.
The artwork was originally created for the 2012 London Olympics, where it was displayed at the Czech House. After the event, it was relocated to Prague, where it now sits near the Agrofert building in the Chodov district.
Artist David Černý created this red double-decker bus installation as a motivational symbol for the Czech Olympic team during the 2012 games.
The installation is located near the Agrofert building and is easy to spot from the street. You can visit it anytime since the work is installed in public space and freely accessible.
The bus was originally from a fleet on the Isle of Wight and later operated in the Netherlands before being transformed into this art piece. This journey from everyday transport to a kinetic sculpture shows how artist David Cerny repurposed an old vehicle into something unexpected.
