Cínovecký hřbet is a protected natural site in the Eastern Ore Mountains covering roughly 30 hectares of transitional peatlands and mountain meadows. The terrain sits between 785 and 837 meters in elevation and supports diverse habitats for rare species.
The area underwent major changes in the 15th century when tin processing in nearby Altenberg triggered deforestation and the construction of water channels. These early interventions shaped the landscape's long-term development in the region.
The protected site serves as part of a bird sanctuary network in the Eastern Ore Mountains and holds significance for local conservation efforts. Visitors encounter habitats that support populations of endangered species found nowhere else nearby.
A marked red hiking trail runs from Cínovec to Fojtovic and passes directly through the protected area for easy exploration. The route is straightforward and allows visitors to move through different habitats without needing detours.
Hundreds of specimens of the critically endangered milkwort plant grow here, making this location one of few places where the species maintains a stable population. These rare occurrences hold great importance for botanical research and species conservation efforts.
