Palác Rokoko, Art Deco palace in New Town, Czech Republic
Palác Rokoko is a six-story building with a rounded corner at the intersection of Václavské náměstí and Stepánská Street. It houses the EA Hotel Rokoko, shops, offices, and a theater with an adjacent cafe.
Construction began in 1912 after demolishing the Baroque Aehrenthal palace and was completed in 1916. World War I delayed the project significantly.
The Rokoko Theater in the basement has hosted performances and continues to shape the cultural life of the location. The name reflects the decorative style that characterizes the interior spaces.
The building is easily found at a major intersection in the city center. The interior arcade connects it with nearby passages, making it a central crossing point for pedestrians.
The original 1916 skylight system still illuminates the interior arcade and creates a special connection to the nearby Lucerna passage. This design feature is rarely noticed and shows the care taken in early construction.
