MILUJI, Contemporary art installation in Neratovice, Czech Republic
MILUJI is a public art installation in Neratovice composed of large metallic letters forming the Czech word for 'I love you'. The structure stands freely accessible in the landscape and can be viewed from all directions.
The installation emerged after communism's fall, when Czech artists began expressing personal and emotional messages in public spaces. This shift marked a move away from state-controlled narratives toward free artistic expression.
The work uses the Czech language as artistic material, merging words with sculptural form into a statement visitors can grasp directly. The oversized letters encourage people to explore their own feelings and interpret the location personally.
The work sits in an open area and is free to visit at any time, making it accessible for trips throughout the day or night. It's worthwhile to visit multiple times to fully experience the changing light effects and different viewpoints.
The metal letters react to sunlight and create reflected gloss effects that constantly shift throughout the day. Depending on the time and weather, the installation looks entirely different, making return visits a special experience.
