Botanická zahrada Univerzity Palackého, University botanical garden in Olomouc, Czech Republic
The Palacký University Botanical Garden is a facility in Olomouc organized into three distinct sections: a park area with grass and shade-loving plants, a central zone with flower beds arranged systematically, and a section of exotic shrubs positioned along railway tracks. This layout allows visitors to see different plant types and their growing conditions side by side.
The garden first appeared in written records around 1787 when the Olomouc Lyceum planned its layout. The Dominican monastery later established it as a site for medical studies, shaping its purpose for generations to come.
Students visit this space to study plants in their organized settings and observe how different species coexist in designed sections. The garden functions as a place where people connect botanical knowledge with the living plants around them.
The garden welcomes visitors from April through October with varying hours depending on the season, opening at 8 AM with closing times at 4 PM in spring and fall or 6 PM during summer months. Free admission means you can spend as much or as little time here as you wish without any cost.
A special section of the grounds contains water areas with North American carnivorous plants belonging to the Sarracenia genus. These wetland dwellers have adapted to survive in poor soil conditions and often catch visitors' attention.
