Church of Saint Martin

The Church of Saint Martin is a house of worship in Petrovice u Karviné built with thick stone walls and historical craftsmanship. Inside, wall paintings with floral patterns and stylized vases discovered during renovation work in the 1990s add character to the space.

This house of worship was built in 1789 and replaced an earlier wooden structure dedicated to Saint Nicholas that had served the community since it was first mentioned in 1360. The shift from wood to stone reflects the community's growing stability and prosperity over the centuries.

The church sits among wayside crosses and religious statues that reflect the community's faith. These monuments serve as everyday landmarks for residents and shape the spiritual character of this place.

The surrounding protected landscape holds the Lazecká remíza forest with oak trees over 200 years old that stand like silent sentinels over the region. The Petrůvka River marks the border with Poland and creates a natural boundary between the countries.
