Brouk, Public sculpture at BB Centrum in Prague, Czech Republic
Brouk is a monumental sculpture at BB Centrum in Prague depicting a Porsche 911 impaled on a giant pin. The installation stands 17 meters high and extends 8 meters in length.
David Cerny created this monumental work in April 2020 as part of the Passerinvest Group's effort to enhance public spaces through art. The project emerged from a broader initiative to transform the urban landscape with artistic installations.
The name Brouk refers to a beetle in Czech, alluding to the Volkswagen Beetle while the impaled pose reflects how insects are pinned in scientific collections. Visitors notice this double meaning reflected in the metallic form and the dramatic positioning of the vehicle.
The sculpture performs movement sequences every 45 minutes between 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM, with each performance lasting around 6 minutes. Visiting during these operating hours allows you to witness the hydraulic motion effects firsthand.
The installation comprises 11 hydraulically controlled segments that create motion effects and are finished with an opalescent coating. This shimmering surface resembles real insect wings, strengthening the artistic concept behind the work.
