Cihlový most k Tichému ostrovu u Mikulova

The brick and stone arch bridge at Tichý ostrov spans across Portz pond with fifteen semicircular vaulted arches supported by sturdy pilasters topped with pyramidal edges. The structure combines both practical engineering and careful stonework along its entire length.

The bridge was built in the 1620s to connect to a hunting lodge positioned on a limestone outcrop in the middle of Portz pond. This link provided access to an important location during that era.

The bridge displays regional craftsmanship through its combination of local building techniques, using bricks from Mikulov kilns and limestone blocks. The visible construction methods reflect the practical knowledge that builders in this area developed over generations.

After restoration in 2020, the bridge connects to trails and footpaths throughout the area, leading toward Drasenhofen in Austria. Informational panels along the route explain its design and construction methods.

The structure originally featured an innovative water drainage system with curved tile openings and included a movable wooden section that was later replaced with brickwork. This practical solution reveals how builders of that time managed water flow and passage.
