Proskovický mlýn, Historical watermill in Proskovice, Czech Republic
Proskovický mlýn is a watermill building with a traditional wooden water wheel and complete milling equipment inside its preserved structure. The building stands on a section of the Odra River where water powered the machinery.
The mill building emerged in the first half of the 17th century, with its first written record in 1658 in documents of the free Proskovice jurisdiction. Changes came in the early 20th century to introduce additional power systems.
The mill building shows how local farmers came here to grind their grain into flour using water power. This work was part of daily life in the region and shaped the rhythm of the agricultural community.
The mill building is currently not open for visitors due to ongoing renovation, but you can see the exterior and wheel from the riverbank. The location sits along a walking trail with information signs about local industrial history.
Around 1903 the mill was rebuilt to run on both water power and steam, with both systems operating alongside each other for many years. This rare combination shows how the mill adapted to new technology while keeping its original power source.
