Gayerova kasárna

Gayerova kasárna is a large military complex in Hradec Králové featuring two main barracks buildings in neo-Renaissance style spread across multiple streets. The facades display ornamental stonework and decorative elements, and today the site serves both administrative and cultural purposes.

Construction took place between 1887 and 1889, replacing an older Austrian fortification that had stood since 1776. Architects František Cerný and Josef Falta designed this modernized military facility.

The Museum of Eastern Bohemia has occupied sections here since 1992, displaying regional artifacts, textiles, and everyday objects from local communities. Visitors can see how people lived and worked across the wider area over the centuries.

The complex spans multiple streets, so having a map or using directions is helpful for navigation. Be aware that some sections may have restricted access or specific visiting times.

Archaeological digs beneath the current buildings uncovered remains of the original 18th-century Austrian fortification system. These findings reveal how the earlier defensive structure was engineered before the modern complex was built.
