Atelier of Bohumil Kafka, Sculptor studio in Dejvice district, Prague, Czech Republic
The Atelier of Bohumil Kafka is a brick building with large windows and high ceilings in Prague's Dejvice district. The space was designed specifically to allow work on monumental sculptures in natural light.
The studio was built in the early 1900s and remained Kafka's primary workspace until 1942. During this time he created many works for public spaces across the Czech lands.
The workspace shows how Kafka shaped his creations and the techniques he used for monumental sculptures. His working methods still influence how people understand sculptural craftsmanship in the region today.
Visits require advance planning, especially for groups. The studio sits on Bushtehradska street and is best reached on foot or by local transport.
The studio includes specialized mechanical lifts and rotating platforms that let Kafka work on large bronze and stone pieces. These technical features were quite rare at the time and show how inventively he approached his craft.
