Castle Park

Castle Park is a landscaped park in Zahrádky built on multiple terraced levels, featuring diverse tree species and ornamental plants throughout its grounds. The space includes historical garden structures and pavilions that shape its overall character and layout.

The park was created in the first half of the 17th century under Albrecht von Wallenstein, who made it part of his larger regional development strategy. This foundation reveals the place's significance during the Baroque period and its connection to the power structures of that era.

The park displays two baroque statues from the 18th century depicting Saint John of Nepomuk and Saint Barbara, which reflect the religious importance the place once held for the community. These figures shape how visitors experience the grounds today and connect the space to local traditions.

The northeastern section is managed by Charles University, while the southwestern portion welcomes public visitors through marked entrances and pathways. Use the established routes to explore the full layout of the grounds.

The park serves as a habitat for the rare hermit beetle Osmoderma barnabita, making it an important site for biological diversity in the region. This specialized insect finds ideal living conditions in the park's old wood structures and established trees.
