Column-21, COVID-19 memorial column in Krnov, Czech Republic

Column-21 is an 11-metre concrete obelisk on náměstí Hrdinů in Krnov, made in 2021 by Jan Nálepa and Dávid Sivý. Its smooth 1.2 × 1.2 × 3.5 m base carries a rough, sculpted upper section 7.5 m tall with a diameter of 40–70 cm. Concrete offcuts left around it form part of the work, and ivy is expected to gradually cover the column.

Column-21 was created during the Landscape Festival in Krnov and the Bruntál district in July–August 2021. It was installed in the southeastern part of Krnov's náměstí Hrdinů, in front of the historic polyclinic building. The sculpture is by Jan Nálepa and Dávid Sivý. It was conceived as a modern counterpart to plague columns during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sculptor and art historian Pavel Karous called the column a reaction to the 2021 peak of the covid-19 pandemic and a reworking of baroque plague columns into a post-apocalyptic visual language; he judged it the strongest work devoted to the epidemic's victims. Its placement in front of the polyclinic drew a petition organised by an opposition councillor, while most of the city council and known artists supported it.

The site is easily accessible on foot from the city center and sits in a quiet setting. Visitors can reach the memorial at an open location without any entrance requirements or restrictions.

The concrete pieces left over from carving the 7.5-metre upper section were kept around the base and form part of the work. The column is meant to be gradually overgrown by Virginia creeper, so its appearance will change over the years.
