Krnov

Krnov is a municipality in the Moravian-Silesian Region near the Polish border, spread across three districts within a hilly landscape. The Neorenaissance town hall anchors the town center and now functions as a cultural facility.

The settlement gained town privileges in 1269 and became the capital of the Duchy of Krnov in 1377. This elevation to duchy status separated it from previous rule and strengthened its political standing.

The former synagogue now serves as an exhibition and concert venue, keeping the town's Jewish heritage present in daily cultural life. This repurposing shows how the community honors its past through ongoing programming.

The terrain is hilly and well connected by tram and bus routes, making movement between districts straightforward. Comfortable footwear is advisable due to the uneven topography that requires attention while walking.

The Cvilín hill rises with an observation tower from 1903 that offers views toward the border region. Nearby stands the Church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows, constructed in the early 1700s, completing this elevated landmark complex.
