Karlův hvozd, Nature reserve near Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic.
Karlův hvozd is a nature reserve located in the Tepla River valley near Karlovy Vary, with beech and oak forests covering steep hillsides. The protected area comprises three separate sections that provide diverse habitats across the landscape.
The reserve was established in 2022 as a collaborative effort between Karlovy Vary Spa Forests and the Slavkovsky Les Protected Landscape Area. This initiative aimed to protect the forest ecosystems of the region for future conservation.
The forest management practices maintain natural habitats while allowing local residents to continue traditional activities like mushroom gathering along designated trails.
Marked trails guide visitors through the different forest areas, making it easy to explore the reserve on foot. Information boards at the main entrances explain the features and rules of the protected area.
The reserve contains significant amounts of dead wood that serve as vital habitats for bats, birds, and insects. These fallen trees also support soil health and help retain moisture in the forest.
